Is Fast Food The New Tobacco?

Is Fast Food The New Tobacco?

There have been fast food for a very long time. The White Castle, the first fast food establishment, opened in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas. In the 1900s, men worked and women did the cooking. The whole family would have a pleasant dinner together when the men returned home to a cooked meal. Everything has changed now; there are many more fast food places, both men and women work, and even children are working.

So, is fast food becoming a replacement for tobacco? People are growing more addicted to fast food in the same way that they are to nicotine and smoking. Although fast food labels don't provide much information about if the food is healthy or not, tobacco companies do alert people to the fact that it's not good for them and might kill them.

Why Are People Eating Fast Food?

According to my study, as of 2022, there are 197,163 fast food restaurants running in the US. This could be the main cause of why so many people consume fast food. On every street and every block, there are fast food businesses. Fast food places are widely available, yet there are not many healthy eateries nearby. That is another reason why individuals choose fast food over healthy meals.

Fast food is also commonly eaten since it is quicker and considerably less expensive. Always choosing the least expensive option, people very rarely consider the effects. For example, someone who works more than ten hours a day is probably too exhausted to cook or prepare a meal and will instead go for fast food. Another individual who is taking a 15- or 30-minute break will eat fast food since they don't have time to get home. While fast food might be beneficial, it also has the most impact on our bodies and health. Fast food is just as unhealthy and dangerous for you as tobacco.

The Effects of Fast Food?

The biggest financial waste is eating fast food. A week's worth of meals for 3–4 people may be purchased for $150–$200 in groceries, which is much more affordable than paying $56 each day for fast food. Although people don’t think about it this way, they think about how much a sandwich can cost $4 while a pack of pasta costs $8. Meanwhile, the groceries are much more affordable.

Consequences on The Body?

There are several negative impacts and outcomes that eating fast food may have on the body. Fast food may lead to a variety of health problems, including headaches, acne, high blood pressure, depression, breathlessness, obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, weight gain, and more calories.

Personally, I used to eat fast food every day, wasting money and suffering from acne, high cholesterol, headaches from depression, and other health issues. Until I decided to go short on fast food and not eat it every day.

Obesity

Obesity can be caused by fast food. Eating too much fast food causes obesity and it turns to body fat and more calories in the body. The calories and saturated fat content in fast food are very high. You may develop obesity if the extra fat isn't cleared off.

  1. What have been the benefits to you as a result of reducing the amount of fast food? That would have been a good addition to that thought you included.
